The main purpose of the establishment of the Koperasi was to defend the place of residence and to prevent the evicted residents of Brown Estate in Sungai Ara, Relau, Sungai Nibong, Kluang River, Sungai Tiram and Bayan Lepas, Penang. At that time, the lands were about being sold to settle the owner’s estate duty, Miss Helen Margaret Brown who already passed away.

DEBTS SETTLEMENT



In a very difficult situation, KTMSAB had negotiated with Penang State Government to discus effective ways in order to settle their loans.


YAB Mr Ghaffar Baba who was then the Rural Development Minister plays an important role in the negotiations between the Koperasi and the Penang State Government.


Penang State Government’s decision to choose Sg Nibong area to Bayan Lepas area for the development of industrial zone and new city had changed everything.


Value of the land area has been increases with the existence of the above planning. Penang State Government also shows their interests in purchasing lands from KTMSAB.

On Dec 1972, one sale purchase agreement signed by KTMSAB and Penang State Government. Penang State Government purchased 260 acres of lands from KTMSAB. All the KTMSAB loans arrears considered as settled. KTMSAB also had given RM806,000.00 as the result from the transaction.

With the sales, KTMSAB still own 747 acres of the land and their permanent members are 1334 people consist of Malay, Chinese, and Indian as shown in the table below.

Chinese : 25.97%
Indian : 2.62%
Total : 100%
